Hus Silk has woven Hamchang Silk for generations in Sangju, a town of three white things.Sangju has been called the town of three white things (rice, silk cocoons, dried persimmons) since ancient times. Silk threads are extracted from the silk cocoons of the three white things, and the fabric woven with the silk threads is the well-known Hamchang Silk.Hamchang Silk got its name from the town of Hamchang, where the largest amount of silk was produced in Korea. It also got its name from the Hamchang five-day market, which was the only market with an authorized silk shop in Korea, and a lot of the silk traded in the market was sold to other areas throughout the country. It is just like Hansam ramie and Andong hemp got their names from local five-day markets where a lot of ramie and hemp were traded, namely the ramie market located in Hansan-myeon, Seocheon-gun, and the hemp alley located in Andong-si, respectively. In Hamchang, we have inherited a silk weaving technique from our mothers and grandmothers and added a power unit to improve production efficiency and weave traditional silk, which has a long history. In an era when modern design and high-quality fabrics are fast and mass-produced using advanced weaving technologies, we have started to feel proud about weaving traditional fabrics with long-standing technique and feel joy that we did not feel before.
